No visit to Port Macquarie is complete without seeing the Koala Hospital. The Hospital offers a rare insight into the habits of one of the world's most endearing creatures. The Koala Hospital is operated by the Koala Preservation Society of NSW Inc., a group of volunteers committed to the welfare and preservation of wild koalas. The hospital has koala admissions of between 200-300 each year. "Walk & Talk" tours are conducted at 3.00pm feed daily. Open 7 days a week, with feeding times at 8.00am & 3.00pm. The Sea Acres coastal rainforest community is the largest and most diverse in the region. The forest runs right down to the beach, so you can enjoy the stillness and beauty or the roar of the surf. Sea Acres was dedicated as a nature reserve in 1987, and was the first coastal landscape to attract a Heritage Listing for the preservation of an area containing an outstanding remnant of coastal rainforest. There is an elevated boardwalk through the rainforest (wheelchair-accessible), an information centre, gift shop and café. The Rainforest Centre and Rainforest Café are open every day from 9 am to 4.30 pm. Allow an hour for the boardwalk and please wear flat walking shoes. Opening Hours are 9.00 am to 4.30 pm daily.
